nodus tollens

nodus tollens   “n. the realization that the plot of your life doesn’t make sense to you anymore—that although you thought you were following the arc of the story, you keep finding yourself immersed in passages you don’t understand, that don’t even seem to belong in the same genre—which requires you to go back and reread the chapters you had originally skimmed to get to the good parts, only to learn that all along you were supposed to choose your own adventure.”

We all come to a point in life where we don’t know which path to take, which choices to make and it’s all just a jumbled mess of circumstances we cannot seem to fathom. Trust me, we all go through that. We look for answers to questions like “Am I really happy?”, “Is what I’m doing with my life making me truly happy?”. These questions make us stop and think. And then we find ourselves drowning in regret. We think of what could have been. Of what we could have done. We think of the “what ifs” and “maybe’s”. That maybe if we did this or that we would not be questioning our lives now. But you see, turning back time is a privilege we can never attain and all we can ever really do is live life with no regrets. The decisions and mistakes we made are the reasons we are who we are.

We should never look back in anger, we just have to keep moving forward and learn from our mistakes. Never let anyone tell us what we can or cannot do.  Let’s paint our blank canvass ourselves and fill it up with the colors we want to, let’s choose who we want to be in life.  Let’s choose our own adventure.
